Carlota is already walking normally after she was attended to treat a limp that she had in her right leg. Our veterinarians have operated this young mouflon (Ovis aries musimon) that was born in January 2019 in Terra Natura Benidorm. Two weeks ago, was when she started to experience a slight limp.

The team of veterinarians made a first exploration and detected that the problem was caused by a dislocation in the right carpus. Initially, a splint was applied to immobilize the limb and anti-inflammatories in order to reduce pain to the animal.

Thanks to the follow-up protocol carried out by the team of professionals, they saw that Carlota wasn´t improving, so a second review was carried out and they found out that she had a broken ligament.

To operate the mouflon, a surgical procedure has been carried out in the affected area. They had to remove the cartilage from the joint so that the bones can be joined. The treatment has been completed with the immobilization of the leg for 3 weeks.

In this period, the mother has not separated from her baby at any time. This is the first time that this type of intervention has been carried out on this species in the zoo.
