We warn about the conservation of elephants in the wild
hace 4 yearsWe alerted about the conservation status of elephants in the wild during a training talk they have given in the MasterD veterinary specialisation course. During the presentation, the high pressure that elephant populations are subjected to, especially Asian ones, was explained, since it is estimated that there are only 40,000 specimens of this subspecies in their natural habitat. In the case of African elephants, the number of individuals is higher, with about 400,000 individuals living in the wild.
The talk was given by the veterinarian, Mario Torró, and the Conservator of the park Elisa Gozalbes. The presentation addressed other issues such as work procedures with elephants, highlighting aspects such as well-being, safety, facilities, food, health and positive reinforcement.
Likewise, during the training session the main threats that affect the conservation of these animals have been discussed, such as loss of habitat, fragmentation of their territories, competition for space with humans and illegal ivory trafficking.
From Terra Natura we regularly collaborate in training and education activities to share the experience in the knowledge and handling of animals by its team of specialists, as well as to disseminate about the problems of biodiversity conservation that currently exist in order to raise awareness about them.
