Animals will enjoy sensory experiences on the occasion of San Antón at Terra Natura Benidorm
hace 5 yearsZookeepers have designed these actions based on the typical behaviours of each species, their tastes and preferences.
We celebrate this weekend the day of San Antón, patron saint of the animals, in a special way. There will be different sensory experiences for the animals in the park. It is about introducing into their daily routine elements that will motivate the animals physically and emotionally. Among others, different types of perfumes will be applied to the prairies and facilities as an olfactory enrichment technique among the group of felines such as jaguars, tigers, lions, ocelots and nebulous panthers.
In the case of ocelots, traces of fish will be scattered throughout its installation and before they come in, the armadillos will be allowed to pass through the enclosure so they leave their trail and ocelots can follow it. Likewise, oatmeal with a scent of capybara will be placed in at least three different points inside their space so these felines follow the smell to investigate it.
On the other hand, enrichment measures will be adopted through the olfactory and gustatory sense in animals such as cotton marmosets. Peanuts will be placed on the roof of their home to pretend they have fallen from the trees and on the ground, keepers will put fruit, insects, branches and flowers.
For both Macaws and Maras, keepers will put hanging bread, small logs for gnawing and seeds in order to create a trail in their respective homes. Corn will also be added in different areas, bamboo branches and skewered fruit made with oranges, bananas, apples and seasonal fruit such as kaki.
In the Asian area, orchid flowers will be placed in the muntjac prairie and pieces of fruit will be hidden in the forage and branches; there will be pieces of hard bread too. Seeds will be hidden all over the siamangs meadow between branches and flowers. Keepers will also hang fruit and vegetables from the trees so they have to jump and nuts will be hidden so they have to discover them.
On the other hand, the bats will receive in honour of San Antón some pieces of pineapple and coconut, hibiscus flowers, insects and branches of ficus and bamboo. In addition, they will have a special auditory experience by hanging keys inside their space so they can make some noise and motivate with it. The initiative will be completed with a special zooexperience activity to learn curiosities about the animals who live in terra Natura.
