We give eight herons from the aviary to make possible a new breeding group in Albacete

hace 4 years

From Terra Natura Benidorm we have donated eight herons (Nycticorax nycticorax) from our aviary to a nature centre in Albacete to make possible a new reproductive group of this species in the La Rocha Biopark. Our aviary received three herons for the first time in 2012 and their reproduction has been a success where now there are a group of 40 thanks to the environmental conditions and care given by our zoo keepers.

The heron is one of the most predominant species in the aviary. In recent years, it seems that the species has shown some signs of recovery in its conservation. This heron is native to Spain and usually inhabits wetlands with abundant vegetation. It is a bird with nocturnal habits, so when the sun goes down starts their activity and their diet is based on fish, amphibians and big aquatic invertebrates.
