We perform a veterinary check-up on three capuchin monkeys to check their health

hace 4 years

Miri, Koda and Indi, three capuchin monkeys (Cebus apella apella) that live in Terra Natura Benidorm, have undergone a complete examination where veterinarians have seen that they are in perfect health condition. To carry out this examination, it was necessary to anesthetise the three specimens of seven, five and three years of age respectively in order to perform a general examination.

During the process, the sex of each one was verified, confirming two females and one male. In addition, a microchip has been implanted and keepers have done a review of the dentition as well as abdominal palpation and auscultation in order to rule out any possible abnormality in the respiratory and / or cardiac system.

The installation of this subcutaneous microchip is an essential requirement at the discretion of the Administration, in order to have each specimen identified throughout its existence. The capuchin monkey is a protected species and included in Annex IIB of the CITES Convention, through which the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) regulates the management of threatened species of wild Fauna and Flora.

A group of 12 capuchin monkeys (6 males and 6 females) coexists in the park where social relations develop in harmony, proof of this is the fact that ten of these monkeys were born in the park since the arrival of the parental couple in 2005.
