The therapies assisted with sea lions have started with the new season of Aqua Natura Benidorm. The therapeutic project allows people with some type of disability or emotional problems to benefit from direct contact with these animals, favouring empathic attitudes and reinforcing the confidence of the users of this project.
The group of 4 sea lions dedicated to perform these therapies are Lucy, Joe, Charly and Tino. The intervention is developed through games and an activity of interaction with this group of mammals that lives in Aqua Natura. The activity will start in June and will finish in October, coinciding with the end of the water park season.
Assisted therapy contributes to the general stimulation in psychotherapeutic treatments. Thanks to the interaction that is generated, it reinforces and stimulates the cognitive, emotional and social development of the users. The development of each session is supervised by a team consisting of a therapeutic assistant and a specialist in sea lions. The therapeutic activity with these animals was developed for the first time last year, and now due to the good results it has decided to extend the timetable and the groups for more people who need it. Families and users of this therapeutic project have shown a positive feedback.
