Terra Natura Completes Educational Program for World Amphibian Day
hace 4 weeksAt Terra Natura, we’ve just wrapped up our special educational program for World Amphibian Day, which we celebrated throughout April. This annual event, observed on April 28th, aims to highlight the vital role amphibians play in ecosystems and the urgent need to protect them.
Throughout the month, we hosted a variety of activities, including workshops, themed routes, and educational sessions, all designed to raise awareness about the
fascinating world of amphibians. The program culminated this week with themed workshops and a mini-guided tour focused on these incredible creatures.
Since the start of April, visitors have had the chance to enjoy information stands, interactive workshops, and engaging activities, offering fun learning experiences for all ages. The educational program reached its peak with a mini-route inside the volcano, where our expert educators shared insights about the unique characteristics of amphibians and the main challenges they face, such as habitat loss, pollution, and emerging diseases.
Terra Natura Benidorm is proud to have one of the most diverse collections of amphibians, showcasing species of great biological value. Among the fascinating creatures that visitors got to discover are the bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus), golden arrow frog (Phyllobates terribilis), monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor), blue arrow frog (Dendrobates tinctorius), yellow arrow frog (Dendrobates leucomelas), and the golden toad (Rhaebo guttatus). These amphibians play key roles in their ecosystems, from controlling pests to acting as indicators of environmental health, as well as aiding in pollination and seed dispersal.
In addition, we’re excited to introduce the albino salamanders (Ambystoma mexicanum), a remarkable species endemic to Mexico, known for their impressive ability to regenerate and their fascinating trait of retaining juvenile characteristics throughout their lives. These new residents, housed in a specially designed aquarium, are part of Terra Natura’s ongoing effort to raise awareness about the incredible biodiversity around the world and the threats amphibians face.
Through this program, we’ve reinforced our commitment to environmental education, giving families and visitors the opportunity to learn about the importance of biodiversity and how we can all contribute to its preservation in a fun, interactive way. This initiative aligns with Terra Natura’s mission to protect vulnerable species and promote greater understanding of wildlife in all its forms.
