hace 8 yearsSpring arrives at the park with new mouflon, flying foxes, llamas, bats and chitales.
Terra Natura Benidorm has increased their family in the last two weeks. Recording the birth of 20 specimens of five different species, birth that is usual during the arrival of spring. Muflons, flying foxes, llamas, bats and chitales have new pups that can be seen in their facilities.
The family that has grown the most are the mouflon (Ovis aries), which has 11 new specimens in the area of Europe. These animals, which have great resemblance to the mountain goats, start to be fertile in the early autumn, so it is usual that the birth happens with the arrival of spring. In fact, visitors have been able to see some of the births.
On the other hand, the family of flying foxes (Pteropus lylei) has reached 30 members with the birth of two babies. These are the only mammals able to fly and catch the attention of visitors by their habit of resting upside down. This species is similar to bats (Carollia perspicilata) and five offspring were also born in the park, the weight of the offspring barely reaches 5 grams.
In addition, the birth of a new llama (Lama glama) has been registered in the farm of America area, so now there are five members and in Asia you can see two baby chitales (Axis axis) so the family reaches the 18 members in the park.
As the zookeepers explained, these births are the result of a program of breeding in captivity that Terra Natura develops, these species receive care and veterinary treatments and with the aim of achieving their fertility.
