The elephant Petita from Terra Natura Benidorm celebrates today her 49th anniversary, in an intimate way than other years. Due to the pandemic, it has not been possible to go ahead with the traditional Hindu festival Holi where we celebrate the birthday of this Asian elephant. This year, the elephant has tasted a great dessert made with more than 60 kilos of fruits and vegetables such as watermelon, apple, pepper and tomato, along with her friend Kaiso in the meadow of the elephants.

Visitors who came to the park could enjoy how the zoo keepers have given a big fruit ‘cake’ to Petita and all together have sung ‘Happy Birthday’ to commemorate the anniversary of this pachyderm, which was rejected because she didn´t have the beauty canons of their species.

When Petita arrived at Terra Natura Benidorm she was rejected by the herd because she was considered ugly by the rest of the members. Petita was thin, so in the eyes of the rest of the elephants that made her unattractive, so they put her aside. This happened at the beginning and as time went by, she started to had the support of her inseparable friend Kaiso, an elephant who has been by her side till she was accepted by the herd.
