The family of birds grows with the arrival of two new American species
hace 7 yearsThe family of birds of Terra Natura Benidorm has just increased. This time, the aviary has received the arrival of two new species of birds of the American continent. These are two pairs, one of magpie de San Blas (Cyanocorax sanblasianus) and another of the Tero birds (Vanellus chilensis). with these new species, we enrich the aviary of the park with a greater collection and diversity of birds.
As soon as they arrived to the park, both couples were transferred to the quarantine facilities to be isolated for a few days and kept under observation until their adaptation had been suitable. Once ratified by the veterinary of the park that the birds were in perfect condition they have been taken to the aviary.
The pair of magpies and teros are young, the first are one year old and the other two years old, so veterinarians hope they can breed in the Terra Natura Benidorm aviary. This space, located in the thematic area that recreates the South American continent, has an area of more than 4,000 square meters and welcomes more than 40 species, 6 of them in danger of extinction.
The two species complement each other in their distribution within the aviary, magpies occupy the middle nest of the aviary due to the low and medium branches of the trees and the Teros are earthier and prefer to move on the ground.
The magpies of San Blas belong to the family of corvids and stand out as very intelligent birds, in fact compete with parrots for the first place in the ranking of the most intelligent birds in the world. They are birds of certain size that have a frontal crest. On the other hand, the Teros are small birds that usually inhabit countries of the South American continent as Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, among others.
