The Three Wise Men give gifts to the animals at Terra Natura Benidorm to promote their welfare
hace 3 weeksThe Three Wise Men have made a very special stop at Terra Natura Benidorm during their journey. Their Majesties have taken advantage of their visit not only to feed their camels before continuing their journey, but also to hand out gifts to the animals in the park. They have delivered 40 new food dispensers. These original gifts aim to improve the wellbeing of our animals, encouraging more natural behaviours and attitudes, promoting their physical, mental and emotional health.
Those new dispensers are been given to the saimiri – also known as squirrel monkeys – cotton-top tamarins, brush marmosets, parrots, macaws, lorises, sunbitterns and Asian flying foxes, among others. Each of the dispensers has been designed with specific features to suit the needs of the different species, so as to ensure an experience that replicates their instinctive foraging and food handling behaviours.
As Elisa Gonzalbes, head of conservation at the park, explained: ‘Animal welfare implies that individuals have the necessary resources to face the challenges of their environment, maintaining their health and balance with the environment’. The dispensers not only distribute food in a controlled and balanced way, but also stimulate exploration and interaction, thus contributing to the psychological well-being of the animals.
In their natural environment, many species spend much of their time searching for food, an instinctive behaviour that is key to their development. Thanks to these new resources, the animals at Terra Natura Benidorm can keep these habits to ensure a better quality of life and a more familiar environment closer to their natural conditions.
The visit of the Three Wise Men has also reinforced the educational experience for visitors to the park, who have been able to observe how the animals interact with the food dispensers, allowing them to learn about their natural behaviours. This offering by their Majesties has also raised awareness of the importance of animal welfare and the need to protect these species among the visitors who have enjoyed themselves in the park.
This symbolic gesture highlights the work of Terra Natura Benidorm as a benchmark in the conservation and care of species, highlighting the importance of initiatives that improve both the lives of the animals and the experience of those who visit them.
