A baby bird of loris rainbow, the first birth in 2020 at Terra Natura Benidorm
hace 5 yearsThe conservation work carried out from Terra Natura Benidorm has opened this new year 2020 with the first birth of a rainbow loris chick (Trichoglossus haematodus). This is the second time the park achieves the reproduction of this species.
This second birth arrives after a breeding group was formed with nine specimens thanks to an assignment from the FIEB (Foundation for research in ethology and biodiversity) of Toledo. Once the group was consolidated, the first birth of this bird was achieved in August 2019.
These birds come from police operations to prevent illegal trafficking of species where Spain is considered a strategic point of illegal trade of macaws and parrots from Central America, Africa and Oceania.
The little chick will remain in the nest for two months and both parents will take care of him providing the necessary food. After two months he will start to leave the nest to make his first flights and later it will be time for for his emancipation. The loris usually live in the jungle making groups up to 20 specimens.
