We activate the protocol against the cold weather before the drop of temperatures
hace 4 yearsThe park has implemented radiant ceramic tiles, infrared heat lamps and radiators in the facilities of the species most sensitive to cold
The team of specialists in this space, dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity and environmental dissemination, have activated the heating systems in the areas where the species most sensitive and vulnerable to low temperatures live to guarantee their well-being.
Some heating systems have been put into operation, including radiant ceramic tiles, infrared heat lamps, radiators and splits. The heating has been connected to the marmosets, saimiris, armadillos, reptiles, crocodiles and flying foxes’ facilities, with the intention of preventing winter colds. Marmosets will be given extra supply of vitamin supplements and vitamin C.
In parallel, the amount of food has been increased in some animals such as elephants and rhinos so that they obtain a greater caloric intake, and the diet has also been modified in other specimens such as sea lions, which are provided with more fish fat content such as herring or capelin. In the case of pelicans, the fish diet is also adapted to them.
The arrival of the cold brings with it the change of plumage in most birds, which change it in winter to thicken it and be able to withstand the freezing temperatures. Also, in mammals it is common for the fur to thicken and in reptiles their metabolism slows down in order to reduce their energy expenditure.
