In Terra Natura Benidorm we defend the role of bees as agents that contribute to the promotion of biodiversity, coinciding with Earth Day that is celebrated this Sunday, April 22nd. The managers of the park have designed a programme of special activities for this weekend that will feature an informative workshop on hives and bees, called ‘Bees in action’, which will take place on Saturday from 11 am to 12 pm.
The beekeeping expert, Salvador Andrés, will be responsible for carrying out this initiative in the hive that is permanently installed in the park in the Asian area. The expert will value the work done by these insects that allows the pollination of flowers, helps the conservation of ecosystems and makes possible the survival of the human on the planet.
The talk will also refer the most common predators of bees and the current problems they suffer due to exploitation of hives and the use of chemicals in agricultural crops which affect the conservation of these insects. The public will learn about the different hive models that exist and will see the equipment and tools that beekeepers need to work with these flying insects.
On Sunday, Terra Natura Benidorm will be dedicated to the ‘Fairies and dragons’, an initiative that will be inspired by these figures of Roman and Greek mythology considered as protectors of nature. Children must complete a special passport that they will fill in according to the tests established in three points of the route that will take them through Pangea, America and Asia.
In the first point will be held the reptile track workshop that will take place in Pangea from 11 am to 12 pm. The next test you´ll have to look for lost fairies and make the composition of a magic phrase in the aviary of America, each fairy will hide a word that compose the magic phrase. The final stop will be in Asia, where children can join in a soap bubble workshop and Zumba dance. A tablet will be raffled among the participants. Children can come dress up.
Experiences like the Discovery elephants, the feeding of some animals or the birds of prey show will be added among others activities.
