We developed a program to achieve the reproduction of jaguars

hace 8 years

As part of Terra Natura Benidorm actions on species conservation, the park has start up a program to strengthen the reproduction of the jaguars residing in the zoo. This project, carried out thanks to the collaboration of the Hotel Pueblo Acantilado, includes the establishment of strategies to promote the socialization of the jaguars, oriented to improve the relationship between them so they can reproduce.

Terra Natura Benidorm has a pair of Central American jaguars called Soco and Greece. They are young, healthy and compatible animals at the beginning of their fertile age. The zookeepers found out that the jaguars were too young so the establishment between them did not develop as expected, so it had been necessary to establish a treatment to promote the courtship behavior and to promote their reproduction.
The measures include the installation of sharpening trunks and other elements which are meeting points between animals to develop their daily habits; As well as the placement of olfactory traces to increase the natural behaviors of the predation of the two animals, that favour the appearance of a climax between both jaguars and in the last months and has culminated in excellent relations of camaraderie.
The zookeepers of Terra Natura Benidorm are confident that this year Soco and Greece start the fertility phase and culminate the reproduction. The zoo adapts the interior facilities of the jaguars for the union or separation of the animals in case of pregnancy and the female needs a quiet environment to bring the reproduction to a successful conclusion.
These actions have been possible thanks to the work of Terra Natura Benidorm team and economic investment effort of the park itself and the rights reserved by Pueblo Acantilado through the Acantilado loyalty card.
