We join World Biodiversity Day with workshops and pollination games

hace 2 years

Raise awareness of the need to care for and conserve biodiversity. To achieve this objective, at Terra Natura Benidorm we have organised a special programme of activities to celebrate World Biodiversity Day, which is commemorated every 22nd May. The programme will take place on the 21st and 22nd of May.

Specifically, the Terra Natura Benidorm Education Department has designed a workshop to make seed bombs and a game based on the process of pollination, which will be aimed at

families. The activities will take place in the area set in Asia and will be held from 12 am to 2 pm.

From a playful and educational point of view, the pollination game will lead participants to learn about the importance of pollination, which animals carry out this vital function for life on our planet and what actions can be taken to protect these species. In this sense, the need to diversify the multiflora agricultural landscape, the promotion of ecological processes when producing food, the planting of native flowers, the responsible use of pesticides and the protection of bees, among other issues, will be addressed.

On the other hand, the seed bomb workshop will introduce participants to the technique known as ‘Nendo Dango’. In this technique, seed bombs are used to disperse the seeds of plants without any prior work on the soil. Deforested areas of forests or burnt plantations that are difficult to access are the main areas where this agricultural technique is often applied.

In these seed bombs, seeds are combined with other organic elements to promote their growth. Due to climate change, the climatic characteristics of the Mediterranean landscape and the erosion it generates, this solution is increasingly used to repopulate certain areas of vegetation.
