We launch a project to build insect shelters with recycled materials

hace 1 year

In Terra Natura Benidorm we have started an environmental action to promote the construction of insect shelters and thus promote the conservation of ecosystems through the activity that insects maintain in the environment. We will be holding educational workshops on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th November.

As part of the action, the beekeeper of the Terra Natura Benidorm hive, Salvador Andrés, will visit us to give a talk and a honey tasting session for those attending, which will take place on Sunday 12th November from 11 am to 4 pm.

The workshops will show visitors how to create shelters for insects, which will be made from recycled materials. These spaces will be used mainly by flying insects, such as bees, to build cells in which to house their offspring or to shelter from inclement weather.

In addition to the construction of the insect shelters, an information point will also be set up where the most emblematic characteristics of bees will be explained in depth and the curiosities of this insect will be discussed. The conservation of bees is fundamental to guarantee the pollination process in natural environments, maintain the biodiversity of the planet and avoid the collapse of wild ecosystems.

At Terra Natura Benidorm we have had a beehive for years thanks to sustainable beekeeping. From its Education Department, and in collaboration with a professional beekeeper, work is carried out to care for these animals and awareness is raised to promote the care and protection of this important insect.

Bee conservation is closely linked to human beings and their economy. So much so that the action of this insect contributes directly as a driving force in agriculture. It is estimated that more than two thirds of the plants used for human food depend on bees. The pollination of crops by these insects is therefore essential for the production of flowering plants.
