We welcome a white-breasted toucan within a breeding programme of this vulnerable species
hace 4 yearsWe have received a white-chested toucan, also known as a red-billed toucan, from the Biodome of Granada. The arrival of this new specimen is part of the reproduction programme of this species, which is in a vulnerable state of conservation. The collaboration between both spaces will be completed with an exchange of another toucan that will be transferred to Granada for reproductive purposes.
The new toucan has adapted perfectly to its new environment which shares with other endemic species from South America, such as macaws. The park has a population of 103 exotic birds of 15 different species and this is the only toucan. The white-breasted toucan measures around 60 centimetres and is characterised by the white feathers on the chest, the red beak and the yellowish and white colour on the upper part of the tail. Their beak has a red line and in the case of females their beak is smaller.
