Terra Natura Benidorm has taken part in an Environmental Awareness Day organised by Benidorm City Council’s Beaches and Environment Department, an initiative aimed at highlighting the rich biodiversity of the Marina Baixa region and encouraging the local community to play an active role in protecting its natural heritage.

Throughout the event, the park hosted a series of educational information stands for both school groups and the general public. People were able to learn about many of the native wildlife species found across the Marina Baixa, the challenges they face in the wild, and the practical steps everyone can take to help the local ecosystems.

One of the highlights of the day was an interactive wildlife workshop led by Terra Natura Benidorm’s team of biologists. Through engaging presentations and hands-on activities, participants discovered some of the most characteristic plant and animal species found in Benidorm and the surrounding area.

The session explored native mammals including foxes, hedgehogs, rabbits and bats; birds such as Eurasian eagle-owls, kestrels, blackbirds and house sparrows; reptiles including lizards and geckos; as well as a wide variety of insects. Particular emphasis was placed on the vital ecological role of bees and butterflies as essential pollinators, helping to maintain healthy and balanced ecosystems.

The workshop also introduced visitors to key concepts surrounding urban biodiversity, the ways in which wildlife adapts to human environments, and the importance of protecting natural habitats to ensure the long-term survival of native species.

The programme also featured a sustainable beekeeping workshop delivered by a beekeeper who collaborates with Terra Natura Benidorm. Participants had the opportunity to discover how a beehive works, learn about the complex social organisation of honey bees, and explore the process of honey production. The session also highlighted the crucial contribution bees make to pollination and the preservation of biodiversity.

The event is part of the activities organised to mark World Environment Day, an international occasion that encourages communities to reflect on the importance of protecting ecosystems and promoting more sustainable ways of living alongside nature.
