We bring environmental education closer to older people with a talk in Mallorca

The activity, held at the Day Centre in Andratx, explored biodiversity and seasonal changes to mark the arrival of spring.

At Terra Natura Benidorm, we recently carried out an educational initiative at the Day Centre in Andratx, Mallorca, to coincide with the start of spring. The activity was a talk focusing on seasonal changes, biodiversity, and some aspects of flora and fauna at this time of year.

The talk was made by Esther Sánchez, a biologist and environmental educator at the park, who has extensive experience in designing activities for a wide range of audiences. During the talk, the content was carefully adapted to ensure accessibility and encourage participation, creating a welcoming and engaging space for learning about the natural world.

This initiative is part of Terra Natura Benidorm’s educational programme, which aims to bring knowledge of the natural environment closer to all groups and promote respect for biodiversity. On this occasion, the activity was specifically aimed at older people, a group that does not always have access to this type of initiative.

Beyond its educational value, this kind of activity also has an important social dimension. Delivering environmental education sessions in day centres supports inclusion, wellbeing

and active participation among attendees, while also fostering meaningful connections with nature. Engaging with nature-related content can stimulate memory, spark interest and strengthen emotional ties with the environment.
