We Celebrate Christmas with Environmental Enrichment Activities for the animals

hace 2 months

Christmas has arrived at Terra Natura Benidorm for the park’s animals too, who are already enjoying special environmental enrichment activities inspired by the festive season. These initiatives are part of the ongoing work carried out by the team of zookeepers and veterinarians to enhance animal welfare through physical and cognitive stimulation tailored to each species.

These days, different species take part in activities designed to encourage play, exploration and the expression of natural behaviours. In the case of the otters, the team of zookeepers have made boxes filled with fish, which are introduced into their facility to challenge the animals’ problem-solving skills as they locate and access their food. Other species, such as margays, squirrel monkeys and elephants, roam their habitats in search of “presents” containing food, stimulating curiosity and promoting physical activity.

Natural branches are used as structures for these enrichment elements, blending respectfully and functionally into the animals’ environment. Such activities not only add variety to the animals’ daily routines, but are also based on technical criteria supported by the continuous training of the animal care team and the implementation of welfare programmes backed by the park’s veterinary expertise.

Visible to visitors, these initiatives also help showcase the daily work carried out at Terra Natura Benidorm to promote animal welfare throughout the year, using Christmas as an opportunity to continue encouraging natural behaviours and to strengthen the connection between leisure, education and respect for wildlife.
