WE LAUNCH OUR NEW EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR SCHOOLS
hace 2 monthsAt Terra Natura Benidorm, we have launched ‘A Classroom in the Great Outdoors’, a new educational programme for schools of all age groups. The programme focuses on direct observation of animals and contact with nature as learning tools. Through this curriculum-based initiative, students explore topics including biodiversity, species conservation, animal welfare and environmental protection through activities adapted to different age groups.
Our programme is designed to complement classroom learning with practical experiences in the park, giving students the opportunity to observe, ask questions and develop their understanding. During their visit, pupils can discover animals from different continents
and learn about their characteristics and behaviour, as well as the work carried out at Terra Natura as a modern zoo in areas such as animal welfare, environmental education and wildlife conservation.
Our programme includes interactive learning stations, educational talks, feeding observations and a birds of prey flight demonstration. These experiences allow students to explore different aspects of biodiversity through real-life situations and animals that they encounter during their visit. Activities may vary depending on the day, so schools can check the programme in advance when planning their visit.
With ‘A Classroom in the Great Outdoors’, we also offer the possibility of adapting each visit to the educational needs and objectives of individual year groups. Options include being accompanied by one of our educators throughout the visit, guiding pupils and providing context for the different topics, as well as a range of workshops delivered by environmental educators. These sessions allow students to explore subjects previously covered in the classroom in a practical and engaging way.
Our workshops cover topics such as the organisation of bee colonies, the classification and characteristics of vertebrate animals, animal care and welfare, and the impact of our everyday actions on the planet. We also offer a bird-focused activity in which students learn how to identify different species based on their characteristics, adaptations and behaviour, helping to develop their observation skills and knowledge of wildlife.
Our educational programme can also be combined with leisure activities such as the adventure park and zip lines. School groups also have access to picnic areas, coach parking and accessible facilities, making it easier to organise a full day at the park. To complete the experience, we also offer a Mermaids and Mermen School as a fun and educational water-based activity.
With this new programme, we aim to extend learning beyond the visit itself, using the experience as a starting point for continuing to explore biodiversity, wildlife conservation and individual and collective responsibility towards the environment back in the classroom. In this way, we want to turn direct observation and contact with animals into educational resources that help bring students closer to nature and encourage respect for the natural world.
Terra Natura Benidorm: an educational experience that helps students learn to protect biodiversity
Learning outside the classroom is a unique opportunity to spark curiosity, encourage critical thinking and bring students closer to the natural world. At Terra Natura Benidorm, every school visit becomes an educational experience where direct observation of animals and active participation help students understand the importance of protecting biodiversity.
Visits are designed to meet the needs of each educational group and can be combined with different services to create a tailor-made experience. Groups can also be accompanied by one of our educators throughout the visit, helping to guide the experience and make learning dynamic and engaging.
Educational workshops to reinforce learning
The programme is complemented by workshops delivered by environmental educators, designed to build on topics covered in the classroom through practical and interactive activities. These include:
The Secret World of Bees, an introduction to the essential role these insects play in ecosystems.
Fur, Feathers, Beaks and Feet: So Many Ways to Live, an activity exploring and classifying vertebrate animals.
How We Care for Animals at Terra Natura Benidorm, where students discover how the welfare of the species living at the park is supported and maintained.
Our Footprint on the Planet, a workshop focusing on sustainability and responsible habits that can help reduce our environmental impact.
Who’s Who? Discovering Birds, an activity focused on identifying different bird species and learning about their adaptations.
A complete day out for schools
Terra Natura Benidorm offers facilities designed to welcome school groups, including accessible areas, a picnic area and coach parking, making it easier to organise the visit. Teachers accompany their pupils throughout the day, while activities take place according to the established timetable to ensure the smooth running of the experience.
Visiting Terra Natura Benidorm is much more than a school trip: it is an opportunity to learn, discover the richness of wildlife and develop a greater awareness of the need to protect our planet through experiences that leave a lasting impression.
