We took part in the 10th AICAS Congress on Wildlife Welfare and Management
hace 4 monthsOur team of keepers and veterinarians attended the 10th Congress for Wild Animal Keepers (AICAS), held in Fuengirola from 24 to 26 October. This international event brought together professionals in animal welfare, animal trainers, researchers, and representatives from zoos and aquariums across Spain, Portugal and other European countries.
Terra Natura Benidorm was represented by our veterinarian, Gloria Ribera, together with keepers Álvaro Bru, Clara Quinto, Ana Belice and Ineta Bulkeviciute. Throughout the congress, they actively participated in training sessions and lectures, exchanging experiences and updating their knowledge on welfare, conservation, and the responsible management of wildlife.
This year’s edition coincided with the 25th anniversary of AICAS and featured renowned speakers such as Oriol Talló (UAB / Oceanogràfic de València), Sabrina Brando (AnimalConcepts / University of Stirling), and Melinda Schlegel (Tier-Natur-Erlebnispark Mundenhof, Germany). More than 40 professionals from the zoological sector presented work on topics including training, environmental enrichment, reproduction, conservation, and the emotional wellbeing of animals under human care.
The congress took place at the Manuel Delgado Perea Cultural Centre Auditorium and at Bioparc Fuengirola. It also included a charity auction in support of the Madretierra Association, going towards conservation projects for the Iberian chameleon.
Terra Natura Benidorm’s participation in this event underscores its ongoing commitment to continuous training, the exchange of scientific knowledge, and the constant improvement of animal welfare—cornerstones of our working philosophy.
